Getting aware of those who "make waves"Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action. Shocking facts that are worth considering: 27 November 2006 - Hundreds of people from across Britain march on the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston in Berkshire. They converged in large groups from all directions - by bus, train, bicycle and on foot - determined to carry out the world’s largest ever inspection of a nuclear weapons factory. © Greenpeace / Jiri Rezac Commited lady in the pics section! “Nuclear energy is the most expensive and dangerous means ever devised by human beings to generate electricity. Yet. This draft law supports the nuclear industry in an unprecedented way in the world history. A feed-in-law system is used in other parts of the world for renewable energy, not for nuclear power. Opening the doors to nuclear energy as wide as this proposal demands, will not only end up obliging the Turkish people to pay both expensive electricity prices and taxes for an unsustainable energy but also by leaving them alone and vulnerable to a potential accident in the plant, to the radioactive waste disposal or transportation and to any terrorist or military attacks against the plant. We know that there is no single company insuring the damages of the nuclear disasters, yet the liabilities in the law proposal can cover only a very small portion of possible damages,” said Hilal Atici, Climate and Energy Campaigner for Greenpeace Mediterranean. November 03 Guy Fawkes - National HeroGuy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night and Fireworks Night, is an annual celebration (but not a public holiday) on the evening of the 5th of November primarily in the United Kingdom, but also in New Zealand, South Africa, the province of Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada), parts of the British Caribbean, and to some extent by their nationals abroad. Bonfire night was common in Australia until the 1980s. It celebrates the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, in which a group of Catholic conspirators attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London on the evening of 5 November 1605, when the Protestant King James I (James VI of Scotland) was within its walls. The celebrations, which in the United Kingdom take place in towns and villages across the country, involve fireworks displays and the building of bonfires, traditionally on which "guys", or dummies, representing Guy Fawkes,
the most famous of the conspirators are burnt. Before the fifth,
children use the "guys" to beg for money with the chant "Penny for the
guy".
The evening of November 5th is known as Guy Fawkes Night, but the day itself is not known as Guy Fawkes Day. October 21 Brit Oddities: Crack an Egg Month - Oct 2006After decades out of favour with health experts, eggs are now firmly
